Meet Colin in Philadelphia

Written by Colin Devroe on April 13, 2006

Actually, don’t waste your weekend. :)
I’ve decided to attend the Wordpress and Weblogger meetups in Philadelphia this weekend. Like I said on my personal site, I’ve never been to a meetup. I suppose the main reason I have not, is simply due to geography. I live in rural Pennsylvania, not exactly the hub of technology and weblogging to be sure, but it is getting better.

Have you ever been to a meetup? If so, jot down some pointers for me here. Most likely I’ll just end up drinking a few beers, shaking a few hands, taking a few photos, and heading off to the Apple store. But if you can suggest anything more than that, I’m all ears.

Oh, and really if you have a moment to stop by (and you are in the Philadelphia area), do so. It’d be nice to meet you.

There’s an Apple store in Philadelphia? Why did I miss this! I was in Philadelphia about three weeks ago and I thought there was an Apple store there, but I couldn’t find the address anywhere online.

  2. Owen Says:

    Cool! I’m glad you’re coming.

One of the neat things about a meetup is that in spite of nobody knowing each other at the beginning, everyone has something in common to talk about.

At our very first WordPress meetup, we talked about WordPress for maybe 10 minutes. The rest of the time was about technology, local issues, blogging, and general web development. The common ground helped with the cohesion, but wasn’t the focus 100% of the time. Maybe other meetups are more focused, but I know I enjoy our informal environment.

If all else fails, we host the meetups where they also have beer. See you there!

cavemonkey50: It is actually in King of Prussia, a little ways away.

    Owen: See ya there!

  4. Dennis Bullock Says:

I didnt think there was anything in Philadelphia but cheese steak carts.

Dennis Bullock: Why do you think I’m going there?

  6. Dennis Bullock Says:

Ah I see! I am just finishing mine right now.

  7. Nathan Rutman Says:

If you’re looking for more ways to plug-in to the Philly area, I would suggest checking out the Philly Standards organization (which I happened to find via Meetup):

    http://www.phillystandards.org/

It was just getting started a few months ago when I was attending, but they genuinely seem to want to impact the business culture with web standards. If I still lived near Philly, I’d be going.
